I have always loved holidays since I was a kid, the excitement of it all, fun stuff to do, time off from school.
When you become an adult things change and you see situations differently. So many holidays come and go, but now before the Halloween decorations are even put away, people are putting up their Christmas lights and trees, and even the stores and cities are doing it.
What about Thanksgiving? Is there no one that still holds this holiday as special? The one day of the year set aside to give thanks for everything and everyone is overshadowed by Old St. Nick, and what the latest gadgets are going to be on sale for Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Now some stores are not even waiting until Black Friday! Put your sweat pants on to get comfortable after that full belly of turkey and filling , and head over to Best Buy to get in on the Pre- Black Friday deals right on Thanksgiving!
Has our society gotten so conditioned to the mentality that it just doesn't matter to hold one day out of the year as a day to give thanks, like the Indians and Pilgrims did so many years ago? Thanksgiving seems to be the forgotten holiday these days, because people are so in a rush to get ready for Christmas, they seem to skip right over it.
I, for one love the Thanksgiving day meal, and what it represents to share with family and friends. I can't forget looking forward to watching things I grew up with on tv, like The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving cartoon..
Call me crazy, but no thanks! I will wait to start putting up my Christmas tree and decorations until AFTER Thanksgiving has passed!
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
