Fifi Mahony's is an incredible wigs,accessories and cosmetics shop in The French Quarter in New Orleans,Louisiana. Fifi's bywater haircutting and cosmetology Salon is nearby. Marcy and Ryan Von Hesseling came to New Orleans from San Francisco and they bought some property in the French Quarter. Marcy opened up Fifi Mahony's in 1997.
"Fifi Mahony" is named after a beloved poodle of Marcy's. Fifi Mahony's is definately a place for transgender rockers,shady ladies,glam rockers. Marcy was in a band in New Orleans with famous local Blue Cheer and The Ramones styled Guitarist Dava She Wolf. Fifi's also does a big business in Wigs,Accessories and Cosmetics for LGBTQ people and the general public at large.
They do a great deal of business with Drag Queens and Transvestites. You can walk in and shop. They know what you want and you don't have to make up cheezy stories about "graduation presents for my little sister" or "a new hat for my aunt". I'm a Fifi Mahony Transgender customer and most of us are out of the closet.
Fifi's does really cool makeup with weird brand names like "Urban Decay"and"Cookie Puss". Accessories and items like earrings,too,boho bags and tear drop frame sunglasses,etc. The shop rents out space for young girls to have themselves "wig parties" complete with wigs they can choose from to wear. You can get a really fine makover at midday at Fifi's in The Quarter or at The Bywater. You can get Manic Panic as wild as you want it with your Bywater haircut.
You can get hairstyles as wicked as you like at The Bywater and you can definately get magnificent custom wig styles at Fifi Mahony's in The Quarter. Fifi's has done the wigs and makeup for entire casts of movies. Importantly for Rock and Roll,Fifi Mahony has sold many elaborate and colorful wigs to Tranny Rockers and very colorful female Rockers and actresses.
Fifi's can count New Orleans' Burlesque Stars and many of New Orlean's local celebrities as steady customers going back many years. I've been a regular customer since 2007 and I've developed a family styled relationship with them. They accept that a large number of their customers are Trannies and Queens openly. I've gotten to know Marcy Von Hesseling,Alexa V Cazier,Brooklyn Shaffer,and Nikki Crowell McCoy. Nikki is in the process of opening up her own shop.
The Fifi Mahony's wigs come in the wildest shapes and color combos. Red,Pink,Blue,Purple,Green,Orange,Yellow. They are very,very interesting to look at and behold. Marcy and the others usually take an entire day to style and dye a wig. They usually come up with 10 new wigs in a week. Each wig is different than the one that came before.

New Orleans is the city of hoodoo so Fifi's sometimes adds skulls,spiders,bats,eyeballs,knives to their creations.They sell cool racy stuff like dancing girl feathers and headdresses. Prices are actually quite reasonable and while the custom made wigs can cost upwards of $150-$200,many very wild Fifi's wigs rrun as cheap as $80-$100. Sometimes $50-$60. They sometimes go on sale for $20-$30. And you can buy a boho bag or one of their way out shades of lipstick or eyeliner at very reasonable prices.
I own,I think,13 or 14 wigs from Fifi Mahony's but I've moved a couple of times since then and the wigs are sloppily stored in a refurbished grain silo.Sisters,always store your wigs on a styrofoam head on a shelf.
I live in The St.Louis area and in the next year or two my Sister and I are planning kind of a "Highway 61" vacation down through Memphis and northwestern Mississippi's Delta. We plan to head south from Vicksburg to see New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. We keep having to reschedule but we'll do it sooner or later and we plan to see Fifi Mahony's for a few hours.
