NOLEN SELLWOOD: CADENCE TO THE FLAME

NOLEN SELLWOOD is a native of Minnesota and he is making his mark as a folk artist, with his own special vibe. When you first get a taste of him, the first you'll notice is his very distinctive voice. His lyrics, alone, are surely something you will relate to. So, listen very closely.

His music is very mystifying. The band is: Nolen Sellwood-Vocals, guitar; Steve Lehto-Guitar; John Wright-Bass; John Reinern-Sax; Sam Hovda-Trumpet and Owen Reinert Nash-Percussion. This 11 song album was Mixed and Recorded by Steve Lehto and John Wright and Mastered by Greg Reierson.

STATE OF BEING starts off this album with a very interesting music pattern that you rarely hear. His music will have you dancing in your head and wondering what will come next. I love it. CANDLES has a super great guitar intro that just flows along as his vocals seem to float along in the song easily.

The melody and lyrics are perfect in this song. So sweet. BANJO SONG takes a quite interesting turn as his vocals are in a very high pitch in this song, which is different to hear. This song is far from what you might expect and that is what makes it great.

MASQUE is true poetry put to music as the timing is right on the spot in this song. I must admit, I can just picture him in the studio singing this into the mic with his closed and floating away all by himself. LIKE A SAILOR is another superb song as he seems to get lost in himself as he knows how to express the way he feels to you. Now, it's up to you if you want to listen to him or not.

CADENCE TO THE FLAME brings this album to an end as he only again expresses himself to you. I must admit, he is far from the run of the music that you hear everyday. I find him as a diamond in a coal mine. Also, his music influences include Sun Kil Moon and Angelo De Augustine and Nick Drake. Thank you Krista. You can find him at: You tube, Pandora, Deezer, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify and other sites. ROCK ON, JIM ALLFORD [STEEL NOTES MAGAZINE.]
