DON MERCKLE is a singer/guitarist that hails from Charleston, South Carolina. He is, definitely, into 'low budget' underground films and more. He has considered this album as a "folk-horror record", which should stand out on its own.
The band is: Don Merckle-Vocals, acoustic/electric guitar; Zach Bingham-Electric/acoustic guitar; Chris Bussell-Saxophone, flute;Mark Rapp-Trumpet; Moses Andrew III-Bass, keyboard/organ; Evan Simmons-Drums, percussion; Lindsay Hollar/Desiree Richardson-Backing vocals and Denny Morgan- Mysterious whistling.
This 9 song Cd was Produced by Evan Simmons, Zac Thomas, Don Merckle and Mixed by David Baker with Mixing Assistant Donovan Medley, Engineered by Zac Thomas and Mastered by Stefan Heger.
COVERED IN DIRT starts off this album with some very gritty vocals that you will notice right from the start. This song has a solid beat and will have you stomping your heels up in no time. WOW!
THE BALLAD OF A DEAD MAN sure takes a whole different tone in his music as it has a very noticeable Mexican beat and rhythm throughout the song. Listen close to the lyrics. They make a lot of sense. Quite impressive. SAME DEVIL NEW SKIN has reminded me a bit of a song Charlie Daniels would do. The lyrics are quite a standout as the mysterious whistling is heard in the song. Listen closely.
CABIN IN THE WOODS has a very gloomy feel to the song as the beat is a bit awkward as you get into the groove of the song. I wonder if he was thinking about the horror movie with the same name when he wrote this song? Check it out.
MURDERS IN THIS TOWN contains some foul language, so beware. I love the 'raw' intro to this song as he sings the story about what happened in his dreams and mores. His story sounds pure and genuine to me and makes you think about things in life. This song really blew me away and his tone is amazing, to say the least. Watch out for him. Check this album out. You can find him at: Deezer, Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, You tube, iHeartRadio and other sites. ROCK ON, JIM ALLFORD [STEEL NOTES MAGAZINE]
